Traditional Window Sign Painting Tools & Materials
At SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOPS COMPANY – a Division of Smart Alex Hand-Painted Signs, the 3rd Semester course introduces students to the specialized tools and materials used for hand-painted window signs, including 1 Shot Lettering Enamel.

Through hands-on instruction, students learn how traditional sign painting materials are selected, handled, and applied to glass to create professional lettering and graphic work.
Hands-On Exterior Glass Lettering
Students in the 3rd Semester course receive practical instruction in exterior window sign painting. Training focuses on preparing the glass, positioning the design, applying lettering and graphics, and developing proper paint-handling techniques. This hands-on practice gives students experience creating traditional signs intended for exterior-facing windows.
Learning the Art of Reverse Glass Painting

Reverse window painting is another important technique covered during the course. Students learn how to construct lettering and artwork from the opposite side of the glass, requiring careful planning and an understanding of how the finished image will appear from the viewing side. This traditional method gives students additional experience working with glass and 1 Shot Lettering Enamel.
Temporary Splash Window Sign Exercise
The course also gives students an opportunity to create a Temporary Splash Window. This hands-on project allows students to practice temporary window graphics while working on layout, lettering, paint application, and overall presentation. The exercise helps students apply traditional sign painting techniques to a practical window-sign application.

Students entering the 3rd Semester continue their education with a foundation in traditional sign painting tools, materials, and techniques.

During the 2nd Semester, students learned to work with 1 Shot Lettering Enamel while painting on different sign substrates, including plywood and aluminum. Instruction covered Sign Layout & Design, Blending, Convex and Beveled Letters, and Faux Marble techniques.
Students also completed a hands-on final project consisting of a 2' x 3' plywood sign, giving them practical experience they can carry into the next semester of training at SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOPS COMPANY – a Division of Smart Alex Hand-Painted Signs.
