Enrollment Requirement: Prerequisite 1st Semester
This course covers the tools and materials used to produce outdoor signs with 1shot Lettering Enamel. Students will work on a variety of materials including plywood and aluminum substrates.
Instruction will emphasize Sign Layout & Design, Blending, Convex/Beveled Letters and Faux Marble . Students will produce a 2' x 3' plywood sign for their final project.
Lunch 11:30am-12:15pm.
$800 total for 8-Weeks.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOPS COMPANY by Smart Alex Signs presents the next level of traditional sign painting education with Sign Instructor Alex Kurakake – LA Trade Tech Sign Alumni. The 2nd Semester 8-Week Sign Painting Course introduces students to the essential tools, materials, and techniques used to create professional-quality outdoor signs using 1-Shot Lettering Enamel.
Through SOCAL SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOPS COMPANY, led by Alex Kurakake – LA Trade Tech Sign Alumni, students will learn Sign Layout & Design, Blending, Convex/Beveled Letters, and Faux Marble, then apply their skills to create a 2' x 3' plywood final project.
At SOCAL SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOPS COMPANY, students learn traditional sign painting from Alex Kurakake – LA Trade Tech Sign Alumni, practicing on plywood and aluminum. The course concludes with a 2' x 3' plywood sign project showcasing their skills.

Students practice proper letterforms, proportions, spacing, and consistency while developing the foundational skills needed to create clean, balanced, and professional hand-painted lettering.

Students of Alex Kurakake of Smart Alex Signs learn how lettering, spacing, proportions, and composition work together to create balanced sign layouts.
Our students develop foundational brushwork by practicing essential strokes, movement, and brush control with Tempera Paint and Sable Brushes. Through these hands-on exercises, they build the precision, control, and confidence needed to progress into more advanced sign-painting techniques.
Students build traditional sign painting skills through hands-on lettering and paper sign projects, strengthening lettering, layout, brush control, confidence, and craftsmanship.
